Lettera aperta del Viola Club Bruxelles

Onore agli scozzesi!

Forza Viola. Viva lo sport.

Praise to the Scots!

After the unpleasant experiences in recent European away games, we would like to highlight the warm welcome received by Viola fans who traveled to Edinburgh, as well as the excellent organization and sportsmanship that Hearts supporters have shown.

Both around the city and at the stadium, before and after the match, the atmosphere was of extreme politeness and respect.

Local people stopped us to wish us good luck or congratulate us after the game, they told us they love Florence and they cheerfully commented “we’ll try harder next week”. Others even recommended the best pubs in town, or helped us finding the city landmarks.

Local police officers were extremely kind and they impeccably managed the whole situation (any reference to other cases where our fans were kept for hours inside the stadium after the game or abandoned in unsafe areas, are purely coincidental).

Perhaps due to the fact that Rugby is extremely popular in Scotland, one can breathe and experience the true meaning of sportsmanship in Edinburgh.

In addition to celebrating the Viola victory on the pitch, we believe that last night with the Heart of Midlothian FC we have celebrated a true night of sport.

For this reason, we invite all Fiorentina supporters, and all the people of Florence, to make sure that the Scottish fans who will arrive in Florence next week could feel equally welcome to our city – the way we felt in Edinburgh.

Being part of a European competition means offering a prime show but also sharing culture off the pitch. Florence is and has always been a cradle of civilization, and will continue being so also in sport. Forza Viola. Long live sport.
